Why no remote NVA?

Hi NVA,

I'm curious why no remote control option for your preamps? Is this because of sonics, cost saving or something else?

Thanks.
Simplicity, in pursuit of sound quality.

We favour the use of a completely passive preamp. We don't want to put a power supply inside.

We figure that much software, and many digital sources, already have volume control. In some cases, that means you can do away with the preamp, altogether. We have run our RME DAC direct into our M600 monoblocks at shows to demonstrate this.

And, if you're heavily into vinyl, we figure that convenience is not your primary concern ;)

A remote could make sense in an integrated amp, where there is already a power supply... but that still involves some compromises.

My Quad 99 system has a remote control, the original tuner developed a fault and the remote didn't do anything related to it. The tuner itself worked perfectly. Thus, there are two circuits inside, one does the radio part and the other does the control part. This is the expensive way to do things meaning that the control system is independent and the tuner can function without it. I will leave you to imagine the cost of producing a switching system that can be controlled remotely but which will continue to work if the remote system fails. NVA is a small company and developing such a system in -house would be a distraction, buying it in would be expensive and would, inevitably, compromise the signal path.

Paul knows that Richard would have been horrified at the suggestion and would have had strong words on the subject. Best to accept that a passive pre-amp sounds better without a remote control.
