Footie - sing when you're winning!

My heart can't take this. Two goals up, Newcastle down to 10 men, and we were playing shite. Newcastle pulled the game back to 2 - 2 and were having the best of it by far. Enter Rio Ngumoha, a 16-year-old, making his league debut. Even if you hadn't already heard, you'd know who scored the winner for Liverpool, in the tenth out of eleven minutes of injury time. Cool as the proverbial cucumber, the boy stroked it home from 12 yards. BOOM (to quote Jürgen Klopp) Newcastle 2 - Liverpool 3.

I've watched Rio play in the junior teams and have been following his progress keenly, and trust me when I tell you, he has some future in front of him if he's managed properly. The only thing against him is, perhaps, his height, being only 5' 7", but there again, Ian Callaghan, Sammy Lee, and Steve McMahon were all that height, and they had pretty decent careers.

The crowd were singing his name at the end, as the team paraded around, applauding the travelling supporters, and our Manager, Arne Slot, grabbed him, and you could see him saying something like "Go on, it's your moment," ...and then he gave him a great big shove forward, towards the fans as he applauded them, and they applauded him, and sung his name.

Moments like that only come along once or twice in a career, and tonight will stay with him throughout his whole career.

🎼🎶His name is Rio, and he bangs 'em in for fun...🎵

Great match to watch, especially as a Sunderland fan...

Had to ween myself off the defibrillator after the Liverpool game . Newcastle fans seem of the opinion we were lucky . I tend to agree with Slot no real football was played for most of this game with just getting the keeper to take free kicks . It worked twice and so the ten free level . Then Liverpool played little bit of football with proper passing and everything and Rio kept his control and finished the move off . Virgil was superb as was Sobozlai and Ryan . Of Others had not parts and some looked she'll shocked by the physical assault they were getting . Referee was true to his form , weak a homer and poor judgement . I think most in the stadium knew Gordon's tackle was a red card so why did he need VAR to point it out to him ,and why did I he need to see it back so many times ? Despite how according to pundits desperate Liverpool look we have won both games last year at Newcastle we only managed a draw and still won the league . Arsenal next and I am expecting that to be another tasty match of we can come out of that with another win then things will be looking really bright . Term applied to both Manchester clubs is that real champions win even when they are not playing well does not seem to be applied to Liverpool .

I was worried about the Newcastle game with their pace up front after the Community Shield and Bournmouth games. As it turned out Newcastle provided a different kind of threat especially with ten men. No one can deny that the footballing side won. I thought it was all over at 0-2 against ten men but Newcatles direct approach caused problems. Brought back memories of the 88 cup final against Wimbelton. Fairly confident about the Arsenal game now it looks like they will be without two of their main men.

Newcastle v Liverpool. The ball was actually in play for just 40.8% of the actual playing time, which is the lowest in a Premier League match since February 2010 (Stoke 3-0 Blackburn). That's including 11 minutes of second-half stoppage time, which followed six minutes added onto the end of the first. Time-wasting much?

What a game that was, Grimsby 2-0 up, a third disallowed, although a couple of pundits saying it should have been allowed, game over. United of course pressurised the Grimsby defence for the last 20 minutes, finally equalising late in the game.

13 penalties taken by each team, Grimsby scoring 12 and United 11, the game that had everything.

Has anybody got any players they want to get rid of before the window closes tonight? I understand Liverpool has found some more money down the back of the sofa.

[EDIT]
We've just found another £35M, because Palace have reneged on the Guehi deal, it seems.

Right, the money's spent, the intrigues and arguments are over, the window's closed, and we can get back to contesting the league.

Oh!

Wait!

No, we can't, because after three whole league games, it's the first international fkn break of the season.

@Slinger For me many of these internationals are pointless, ok the World Cup and European Championships, but friendlies and any other mickey mouse competitions should be scrapped. Some Premiership players hardly have any time off to recuperate, especially when their clubs go on international tours before the season starts.

A view not shared in Wales, Scotland and Ireland where qualification matches to major tournaments are concerned.

I can see the importance of friendly internationals in so much as they give the manager time to experiment, and they allow the players to get to know one another on the pitch, but from a league point of view, every extra game places a bit more strain on the players, and offers yet another chance for them to get injured.

In the long run, international managers need them, I suppose, but a lot of fans are overly parochial and can't see beyond their own clubs. My own first thought at the start of every international break is "Who's coming home damaged this time?".

Better sing while Tamworth are winning. Great 2-1 away win at Braintree last night. Enoru beat 4 players in the box & slid home the winner. As a part time team in the National league every win is a big deal.
The Villa aren't doing so well and are the only team to not score a goal in all leagues. Martinez flashed his knickers at Utd and has let his teammates down. The manager will sort things, but the mood is low right now due to 'constraints' by those who dont want us at the top table.
UTV.

Take a point. :)
Villa are set up just like when Emery first joined. He seems to have made the call to return to basics & take it from there, hopefully instilling some badly needed confidence. We are far from the team who who have played with flair and have kept the momentum going for 3 seasons.
Last season we juggled and added 3 or 4 players that we badly needed as the squad was light, so as to compete on all fronts. Our failure to qualify for the CL coincided with sanctions from Fifa and demands from the Prem League to sell players. As a supporter I have understood the constraints of any team other than those at the top table to try and move forwards. It seems our hands are tied.
To improve this season we needed another 2 or 3 players. We are now 3 or 4 players light. All folk at Aston Villa, which is a very well run ship, are disappointed. When you are on a roll it is imperative to maintain it. We can't. I think It will take a couple of seasons of improving players and making good loan deals with fingers crossed before we regularly take points off the elite again. All teams aspire to get better but it seems there is a ceiling we are allowed to hit before realising that it's been a road leading to a dead end all along. Hope the staff & owners stay onboard. Onwards. UTV.
Another away win for minnows Tamworth v Sutton United. It's a happy club indicated by the loyalty from players who could take a bigger wage elsewhere. The manager Andy Peakes deserves alot of credit.
C'mon you Lambs.

Well another nail biter from Liverpool that is five in a row now and so far we have come out with the points . As keeps being said we can not keep doing this we will either draw or lose one of these games but while I can moan about the quality I can only applaud the results . We will improve and the new players will start to gel but not as quickly as I would like . Saturday we have the dreaded Derby and no longer few what that will look like this season , Everton are playing much better and we are patchy but when things click we can look very good . Fingers crossed out to watch with my Brother so at least the company will be good .

Take a point. To be fair even though Sunderland were down to 10 men for an hour they could have won the game. Xhaka just what Sunderland need. Villa disjointed and lacking confidence. The manager has enough credit in the bank to ride the storm and at least make us competitive. Would be very Spursy to do well in the Europa league while struggling in the Prem. Onwards. UTV.
Tamworth defying the odds and managed another 1-0 win against Yeovil Town. They have earnt respect in the National league and that helps with most sides playing with a little caution against us. C'mon you Lambs.

Well Liverpool have been exposed by Palace the better side won but not by the margin they deserved . I have real issues worth the way this side is just not playing together and with little time for training I can not see this getting much better . It may well be going out of the league cup is a good idea but we will see . Very depressed after this and starting to doubt if we can emulate last season's performances .
