Speakers are the sum of their parts. If filters have been fitted, they are there for a reason. With any modification, you have to consider how it would effect the rest of the design.

We prefer a very simple crossover for our Cube speakers - a single high quality capacitor and a padding resistor to protect the tweeter. Rather than using a complex electrical crossover, we create a mechanical crossover by doping the mid / bass driver. We believe that the main sonic benefit of fewer components in the signal path is clarity.

There are many, many different schools of thought regarding speaker design. None are perfect, all involve some sort of compromise. You choose the advantages that you most value.
