NVA Sound

Hi Everyone,

Can anyone describe the NVA sound? I'm new to this brand but interested to learn more. Thanks!

I'm never very good at describing differences when upgrading/buying a new component in my system, so your question is even more difficult to answer. :)
Very natural would be my first impression, nothing exaggerated, smooth, non fatiguing yet always made me take notice. You may wonder why I don't have any NVA components in my system, selling up all my vinyl and turntable, so my phono 2 (2 LPS's) was sold. Tinnitus was the second reason, I found it was easier for me to listen using a valve amplifier, my pre power and Cube 3's were sold. I'm pleased to say my tinnitus has improved, and am very happy with the system I have.

I would describe the NVA sound as transparent and faithful to the source. Since my NVA system has been in place I have made numerous changes to my digital source, most can be described as tinkering in the form of improved power supplies and filtering. In each instance improvements in sound quality to a greater or lesser extent have been very noticeable.

MrBell,
On the chance that you've yet to see the online reviews, I'd highly recommend that you see the videos below.
The gent is very good at articulating what he hears and, to my ears and experience, is very balanced in his views of the strengths and ideosyncrasies of an NVA system .

What I can say is that if you,ve ever found yourself drawn to the qualities of Single Ended Triodes(SET) , Class A amplification or R-to R ladder DACs but couldnt find yourself living with their quirks and limitations, you just might find an answer with NVA.

From my own experience, I'd say the thing I found is that the amps (and phono/headphone stages) have a lack of sound.
They send the signal cleanly from source to speaker, with control and detail.

I started with the 'starter kit', but soon found the bank account getting thinner - as my music playing took up more time and the black boxes multiplied.

Others have said it, Openness, clarity, transparency, weight. It's very much a cliché here but they open the windows and allow the music in. I throw everything at mine, from simple Jazz, through orchestral, and opera, classic rock to heavy rock. They just vanish into thin air superb.

I'm running with a Phono 1 (MM), P50SA and either S300, or a pair of M600's Into Dali Oberon 5's through LS3 speaker cable

Source Wise Well a Linn LP12 (bought a very long time ago, when Linn owned the HiI-Fi media), with the Karousel, Keel , Akito 3/B, Lingo IV upgrades holding a Nagoka MP500 MM Cartridge. Cambridge audio DAC Magic 200, being fed from Panasonic UPD 1000.

Interconnects are SSC for pretty much everything analogue, and SSP for Digital.

Can I see any changes in the future? Possibly, possibly the Phono 1 being swapped for the Phono 2 still in MM configuration ... but that's it, I may upgrade speaker cables, but I don't know, possibly at retirement.

I have a full NVA setup P90SA Phono 2 with 2 power supplies the S300 Power amp and Cube 1 speakers, I agree with everyone else, they just sound so right to my ears, any changes you make, like a new cartridge for your turntable for example, you hear what that bit of kit adds or doesn't add to the sound. I will never change brand, they are that good.

I would argue about the thought that NVA has a sound . In my view that is what they do not have there is no sound you can pin on them . Instead for me NVA just get out of the way and let you listen to the music . So playing Funkadelic you get the bouncing bass and the funky rhythms and you just can not stop smiling . Then you play James Grant and you just wallow in that rich voice marvel at the lyrics and live the music . There are many who like gear that has a sound and there is nothing wrong with that if you want relentless pace then listen to Naim and if that is your choice then go for it . I like music of a huge variety and know that recordings are infinitely different all I want is to hear what is on the recording , good , bad , and indifferent . NVA amplifiers let me do that and do it better than most other amplifiers I have heard .
