New Toys?

Have you bought anything new, fun, or both (or neither) lately? Show it off here.

N.B.
It doesn't have to be hi-fi gear. Show us that new Challenger tank you just won on eBay, or your new Ninja tool that replaces your entire kitchen.

I'll kick off with some boring old hi-fi. My second system has been almost completely rethunk with these new (used) bad boys. I may, at some point in the future, consider a more compact Compact Disc player/transport as well.

My Eversolo Combo - most of my music comes from an external SSD lurking to the side of the A6. Have dabbled with the SSD in the internal compartment, but find it easier to use an external one!
All in all they do produce the goods in my opinion - very satisfied with the sound!

How much difference does the external DAC make, do you think?

Well good question!
Before I got the Dac I upgraded the A6 (which is a gen 1) with the PD Creative power module which has made a difference in the volume ( I don’t have to turn it up as much to gain a realistic sound level) and sharpness of the detail in the music. Although it does run hot!
I dabbled with a fosi zd3 Dac, but that was a disappointment - expected really!
Decided to stick with the internal Dac and got xlr cables, new power cable and was happy!
Played a lot of music over a number of months and thought it was my end game!
However, I noticed Peter Tyson discounting and an eBay discount so took the plunge knowing I could always send it back if no improvement. I do believe the Z8 has improved things further as the detail is immense and the soundstage is further forward.
I haven’t had the Dac very long so further improvement could be on the cards!
So the short answer is Yes!!!
But again do the other improvements all help - I would have said so!
However, it’s all subjective!
This is my only system allied to a pair of Quad S2’s

Bugger!
I've got a couple of very good DACs, but the idea is to shrink the system footprint, and I've only got one candidate that's less than full size.
I'll console myself with the fact that I may have to get new speakers first, because I'm hoping to try the Eversolo duo out with the Monitor Audio Silver RX2s from my main system, as well as the Epos 11s currently residing in my second system, (it depends on whether I'm able to get my body up and down a stepladder) which is what the Eversolos are for. I love the MA Silver RX2s, and it may mean purchasing a second pair before anything else if they gel, which I'm pretty sure they will.

@Lordie8! Interesting you have upgraded your A6 with the PD Creative LPS, I was thinking of doing the same, but you have slightly put me off due to the fact it can run hotter, considering I us it when abroad the last thing I need is another 'heater' since I do run a valve amplifier. I do use a small fan directed at the amp to help keep it cooler.

I've just ordered one from Shenzenaudio https://shenzhenaudio.com/products/topping-dx5-ii-dual-es9039q2m-desktop-dac-headphone-amplifier in the hope that it's the giant-killer the specs say it should be. Plus, note the 12V trigger, which is what tipped the scales.

I can probably still make a profit on it if it's crap. :ROFLMAO:
I'll be very interesting to get your feedback about this DAC. I'm searching a DAC for the video - the one included on my tv box is so awful -. In France it's sold 299€ (AUDIOPHONICS.FR)

I've just emailed Shenzen and asked to cancel my order. Why? Because they've now dropped the f*ck*ng price by £33.00, so I'm hoping they let me, and I can then buy it at the reduced price.

Hi there,

Sorry this product cannot participate in the sale as the previous price was due to a system error.

What do you think we can offer you a 10% discount as compensation?

Best regards

Errrrrrrrr. Yes, please then.
(rofl)

Sure enough, it's back at the full price of $299/£220.32 or, with my 10% discount, £198.29.

Honestly, I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, as the saying goes. Maybe I just don't know enough about today's mid-fi (?) DACs, but - and this is a genuine request - can somebody take a look at the specs (yes, I know it's all about "implementation" but that aside...) and tell me I've got it right, and that this is a stupidly low price for what's inside this little box.

I'm genuinely starting to doubt myself and my eye for a bargain, because it seems TOO cheap.
