Another fine album. "Song for Ireland" is a classic. Features Brian McNeill, Phil Cunningham, and Stewart Isbister. Voted Album of the Decade of the '80s by Folk Roots magazine, A Handful of Earth is Gaughan's best blend of traditional and contemporary songs.
From the ashes of 'Anathema' (possibly the greatest Rock outfit of the last 20 years) arise 'Weather Systems' now as a semi-solo project from Daniel Cavanagh after his brother Vincent's mental collapse.
All the Anathema trademarks are here: celestial atmospheres, passionate songs, driving guitars (their roots as a doom-metal act are still present). An obvious comparison is to Porcupine Tree as a contemporary Prog band, but Steve Wilson is more cerebral in his approach and Anathema always aimed first for the heart and the soul.
A beginning, end, continuation? Who cares. This is music that touches, embraces and moves.
